Filled cupcakes made easy

The Cupcake Corer from Cuisipro has been flying. We decided to get some honest feedback on this neat product from someone who bakes regularly.
You might remember The Cupcake Lady – winner of our cupcake baking competition earlier this year? We sent her a set to test out and here’s what she had to say.

“Yuppiechef sent me a toy to use and review whilst baking cupcakes, and since I had 4 orders for the weekend past, it was the ideal opportunity to test out the Cuisipro Set. The box contained an offset spatula, a cupcake corer, and two concertina-like plastic tubes that you fill with icing, each with a nozzle attached- a star tip and a small-holed writing tip.
On coring.
I had a mixture of cupcakes for various orders, so I first cored a dozen chocolate and vanilla cupcakes which was an absolute breeze! Using the corer is so easy, and it makes a gorgeous neat hole in the centre of the cupcake.
This is of course perfect for when you want to stuff a cupcake with something that can’t be baked into its centre- like lemon curd or strawberry jam. I filled mine this time with caramel, strawberry jam and pitted cherries.
On icing with small-holed tip
I filled the one container with a butter icing and screwed the small-holed tip onto it. I had to do some fairly detailed work on some Pacman themed cupcakes and I thought this would be perfect. While royal icing and a ganache will work like a bomb through that nozzle – the butter icing doesn’t go through it without some white-knuckle effort!

On icing with the star tip.
As it is wider the star nozzle works a treat for butter icing and for little rosettes and such. I filled the second tube with cream-cheese icing, which I used to top the already cored chocolate cupcakes. That was a breeze.

On filling and cleaning the tubes.
The containers were easy to fill as the hole on top is more than big enough for a spoon, and I used the spatula. It was easy to rinse out with hot water and dishwashing liquid too, none of the icing stayed stuck in any of the creases. The containers are a wee bit small to ice multiple batches of cupcakes for big orders, but perfect for royal icing designs.
Finally, The Cupcake Lady reckons this set is perfect for little people.
It’s ideal if you want to have some fun in the kitchen with the kids, who can’t manage a piping bag or a piping syringe. The corer has no blades or anything so children can use it safely and easily and be very pleased with their work when they make their own secret-centre cupcakes. Thank you Yuppiechef, I had great fun!”
Thanks so much, Cupcake Lady. Now, you can go buy it here.
