Fat Fairy auctioned for charity

Posted on 12. Aug, 2010 by Marina in People & Places

Meet Laura Rice: The Fat Fairy.

Not so fat, huh? Yip. That’s what we thought. Well Laura, in her capacity as “Fat Fairy – Chef at home” was recently auctioned off at a charity event that we supported at Zest restaurant in Kloof for R3600 to cook a 3 course meal for 6. Lucky 6 people, hey?

The money raised from the charity event went to 1000 Hills Community Helpers (THCH) which is an organisation in KZN that cares for, clothes and educates underprivileged children. Their big goal is to raise enough money to buy a car to fetch the children attending the school they run in the Inchanga area.

Laura wears many hats – she’s a phd botany student at the University of KwazuluNatal, she runs cookery classes, and bakes and sells cakes as the Fat Fairy! All while lending a hand to what sounds like a very worthwhile charity initiative.

A big well done to everyone who made it happen, and kudos from all of us at Yuppiechef. For more information check out THCH’s website.
